Keeping your smile healthy starts with the basics: regular dental exams and professional cleanings.
At Southtown Family Dental in Kansas City’s Waldo/Brookside area, we believe preventive care is the foundation for lifelong oral health.
Our goal is to make every visit comfortable, informative, and tailored to your unique needs so you can feel confident about your smile.
Even if you brush and floss every day, there are areas in your mouth that are hard to clean at home.
Plaque and tartar can build up over time, increasing your risk of cavities, gum disease, and other oral health problems.
By scheduling routine exams and cleanings, you give our team the chance to:
We recommend that most patients visit us twice a year for preventive care.
However, depending on your health history and needs, Dr. Richard Campos may recommend more frequent visits.
At Southtown Family Dental, we take a thorough but gentle approach to exams. Your appointment typically includes:
Our goal is to provide more than just a checkup – we want you to leave with a clear understanding of your oral health and confidence in your next steps.
A dental cleaning does much more than freshen your breath.
We use specialized tools to remove plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing alone can’t reach. Your cleaning will include:
Cleanings are painless, quick, and leave your mouth feeling refreshed.
For patients with gum disease, we may recommend deeper cleanings or additional care.
We welcome patients of all ages – from a child’s very first dental visit to routine care for adults and seniors.
Our team is especially experienced in helping children feel comfortable in the chair and teaching them healthy habits that last a lifetime.
Because we accept Medicaid for all ages, as well as most dental insurance plans, families throughout Kansas City can count on us for affordable, high-quality care.
Your mouth is the gateway to your overall health. Research continues to show strong connections between oral health and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and even dementia.
Regular dental exams and cleanings help protect not only your smile but also your long-term wellness.
At Southtown Family Dental, we practice with a focus on the whole patient, not just the teeth.
We want to support your health in every way possible.
We believe preventive care should be accessible to everyone, which is why our team goes above and beyond to make dental exams and cleanings easy, comfortable, and affordable.
If it’s been more than six months since your last dental visit, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment.
Regular exams and cleanings are the simplest, most effective way to protect your oral health and avoid costly, complicated treatments later on.
Contact Southtown Family Dental today to book your next checkup.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our practice!
Professional cleanings remove plaque and tartar you can’t reach at home. They help prevent cavities, gum disease, and bad breath while keeping your smile healthy and bright. Combined with exams, they’re key to catching problems early before they become serious.
Most patients benefit from a checkup every six months. Some may need more frequent visits if they have gum disease, braces, or ongoing oral health issues. Dr. Campos will recommend the best schedule to protect your smile.
A dental exam includes a full check of your teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues. X-rays may be taken, and Dr. Campos will review your oral health, answer questions, and recommend any needed treatments.
No, cleanings are generally painless and comfortable. Our team uses gentle techniques to remove buildup and polish your teeth. If you have sensitivity, we’ll take extra steps to ensure your visit is stress-free.
Cleanings can remove surface stains from coffee, tea, or tobacco, leaving teeth looking brighter. For deeper whitening, professional treatments are available, but routine cleanings do help keep your smile naturally fresh and polished.

This is who AI told me was the best dentist in kc that accepts medicaid. I have a phobia of needles in my flesh and in the 3 times he's jabbed me, he's never let me see the big steel dentist syringe. Ive seen other dentists leave it out for you to look at the entire time.Posted on Google

Dr and staff are extremely helpful and nice. My daughter has health issues and they were so understanding with her. I have recommended Southtown to several people I know that are having issues finding good dental care with their insurance.Posted on Google

This was my first time going to the dentist in years, and I was honestly pretty nervous walking in — but from the moment I arrived, everyone made me feel so welcomed and comfortable. Mr. Campos was amazing. He explained everything he was doing step by step, which really helped ease my anxiety and made me feel at ease throughout the visit. I also loved the atmosphere of the office — it felt positive, calm, and inviting. Seeing a diverse staff, was a huge plus and made me feel even more comfortable and represented. Overall, such a great experience. I’m really glad I chose this office and would definitely recommend it.
