When a tooth is badly damaged, weakened, or cosmetically flawed, a dental crown can restore its strength, function, and appearance.
At Southtown Family Dental in Kansas City’s Waldo/Brookside neighborhood, Dr. Richard Campos and our team provide high-quality crowns designed to blend seamlessly with your natural smile while protecting your long-term oral health.
A crown, sometimes called a “cap,” is a custom-made restoration that fully covers a tooth above the gumline.
Crowns are used to restore teeth that can’t be repaired with fillings alone.
They provide durability and protection while maintaining a natural look.
Crowns can be made from several materials, including:
At Southtown Family Dental, we’ll help you choose the crown material that best fits your needs, budget, and smile goals.
A dental crown may be recommended if you have:
Crowns not only improve the appearance of your teeth but also provide structural strength to prevent further damage.
Crowns are one of the most versatile restorative dentistry solutions, offering both cosmetic and functional benefits:
Getting a crown typically requires two appointments:
Dr. Campos reshapes the tooth, removing damaged or decayed areas.
Impressions are taken of your prepared tooth and surrounding bite.
A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth until your permanent crown is ready.
Your custom crown is fabricated in a dental lab for a perfect fit and color match.
At your second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is securely bonded.
Dr. Campos ensures the fit and bite are comfortable before polishing your crown for a natural look.
The result is a strong, long-lasting restoration that looks and feels just like a natural tooth.
Dental crowns require the same care as your natural teeth. To keep your crown in great condition:
With proper care, your crown can last many years and continue to protect your smile.
Depending on your dental needs, Dr. Campos may also discuss alternatives:
We’ll take the time to review your options and recommend the treatment that best restores your smile and oral health.
At Southtown Family Dental, we’re committed to making high-quality restorative care accessible.
We proudly accept Medicaid for all ages as well as most major insurance plans.
For patients without coverage, we also provide straightforward self-pay options to ensure cost is never a barrier to protecting your smile.
If you have a damaged or weakened tooth, a crown may be the best way to protect your smile and restore your confidence.
Our team is here to make the process comfortable and stress-free.

Crowns restore teeth that are cracked, decayed, or weakened by large fillings or root canals. They provide strength, protection, and a natural look.
Most crowns last 10–15 years with proper care. Good oral hygiene and avoiding hard foods extend their lifespan.
No, modern crowns are custom-made to match your natural teeth in color and shape, blending seamlessly into your smile.
The procedure is done under local anesthetic, so you won’t feel pain. Some mild sensitivity may follow, but it usually resolves quickly.
Fillings repair smaller cavities or damage. Crowns are needed when a tooth is too weak for a filling and requires full coverage for strength.

This is who AI told me was the best dentist in kc that accepts medicaid. I have a phobia of needles in my flesh and in the 3 times he's jabbed me, he's never let me see the big steel dentist syringe. Ive seen other dentists leave it out for you to look at the entire time.Posted on Google

Dr and staff are extremely helpful and nice. My daughter has health issues and they were so understanding with her. I have recommended Southtown to several people I know that are having issues finding good dental care with their insurance.Posted on Google

This was my first time going to the dentist in years, and I was honestly pretty nervous walking in — but from the moment I arrived, everyone made me feel so welcomed and comfortable. Mr. Campos was amazing. He explained everything he was doing step by step, which really helped ease my anxiety and made me feel at ease throughout the visit. I also loved the atmosphere of the office — it felt positive, calm, and inviting. Seeing a diverse staff, was a huge plus and made me feel even more comfortable and represented. Overall, such a great experience. I’m really glad I chose this office and would definitely recommend it.
